Having finally got back up north and rested, we felt we should drop you a quick E Mail.
First and foremost many thanks for making us feel most welcome into your Guest House. We have both travelled quite a bit and stayed in many Hotels and Guest Houses, however without doubt this was the best experience.
It is not so much down to the Guest House but down to the people who run it, and the service you offer both inside the house and running to and from the airport, which is second to none. We left your place suitably refreshed and contented.
Whenever we are down that way on our travels and require accommodation then yours will be the place we will stay. We have already passed your card onto a couple of other people who have asked and will continue to do so.
Cumberland House is a gem. You just don't find places like this anymore. Our flight into Gatwick was 2 hours late, but Clive still came to pick us up after midnight! Meanwhile, we watched others from our flight as they received a busy signal from the Ramada Inn and had to take a cab. Clive was so kind and even helped us to arrange our plans for the next day. We left the airport feeling like VIPs as others stood stranded waiting for cabs. The room was wonderful! Comfy cozy with everything we needed including Q-tips, cotton balls, and even a stuffed animal on the bed to make us feel right at home! I enjoyed the best night sleep of our trip and was pleasantly awaken by a knock on the door and personal invite to the best breakfast I have ever had at any hotel in my whole life ...
... Carmel cooked us a full English breakfast - I'm talking sausage, eggs, bacon, potatoes, beans, fruit, coffee, tea - EVERYTHING, and all included! I couldn't believe it. Not only that, but she was so nice and charming. Then Clive got us promptly back to the airport. What a great experience!!! I can't say enough! If you choose another accommodation over the Cumberland House, you are absolutely crazy. Do yourself a favor and don't settle for the mediocre competition. It was so nice to stay in a cozy, comfortable, clean and accommodating B&B where they knew our names and we learned theirs! Plus their prices are amazing. B&Bs like this will not be around forever, so don't miss a chance to stay at Cumberland House and experience true English hospitality. Cheers!!
I found the Cumberland House completely by chance whilst looking for a B&B on the internet. I couldn't have wished for better hosts or B&B, I liked the Cumberland House so much I instantly booked with them again that day for my next holiday which was 12 months away!
We first stayed at Cumberland house after having a bad experiences using two of the large airport hotels. It was soon after Carmel & Clive had taken over the B&B. We have now stayed many times at Cumberland House, and always found them very friendly and helpful. We are picked up from either Horley or Gatwick station and dropped off at Gatwick North terminal when we leave. All worries taken away. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. The breakfast is really nice. It is only a few minutes from Gatwick. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. With the Six Bells pub just down the road, our holiday starts the evening before we fly out.
Thanks for the lovely stay. You were so kind to us with the milk and biscuits on Sunday night and also in your concern for me while I was having a migraine. I did begin to feel better not long afterward and we were able to complete our travel with no big problems.
Thanks so much for all you did. It was very nice to feel looked after in such a kind way. I did hate to leave behind that beautiful breakfast you cooked! I thought of that delicious-looking heap of scrambled eggs all day, believe me!
We arrived at the south terminal of Gatwick airport. I called Carmel at Cumberland House, and in just a short time she was there to pick me up. (If you need a room near Gatwick, I
commend Cumberland House. Carmel and Clive are wonderful hosts.)

Although my stay was brief I wanted to thank you both for your wonderful hospitality. I appreciate Clive waiting up for me on Saturday night and Carmel making sure I was awake Sunday morning and making me such a nice 'full English' breakfast ...
... I also thank you for taking me back to the airport. My flights were on time and I arrived safely home last evening. I have emailed the Thakes to let them know what a wonderful place you have and will certainly let my friends know when they come your way. Again many thanks and good luck to you both.

We finally made it back home. We absolutely had the most fantastic stay with you. The nice part, was that you both made us feel as if we were at home to start with. I can assure you, that we won't forget.

Hope we didn't disturb you when we picked up our car at 02.45 this morning. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday in Egypt and a safe (but wet) journey home to Cornwall. Many thanks once again for the pleasant stay we had at your guest house prior to departure from Gatwick. You will certainly be the first point of call if we ever have to fly out of Gatwick again. We will also recommend you to any friends who require accommodation in the Gatwick area.
Just a quick email to thank you both sincerely for my stay on Tuesday evening thru Wed morning. The room and facilities were excellent. And I was very grateful to Carmel in particular for safely seeing me to the CAA building. Glad to say I was re-certificated that morning and am now back flying!

Many thanks for your kind hospitality you gave us on our short stay. We both enjoyed the stay and would recommend you to any of our friends if they need a stopover prior to a flight as the location was ideal. Hope all goes well for you in the future.
